Welcome and opening remarks - GIS Day 2021
Imre Kabai is chief information officer for the County of Santa Clara and head of the Technology Services and Solutions (TSS) Department. Prior to accepting this role in February 2020, Imre was chief technology officer and headed the Architecture, Innovation and Mode 2 Solutions Development Division of TSS. Imre brings to the County more than 25 years of IT experience from a variety of industries, including construction, healthcare, federal government, academia, biotech, manufacturing, software development and retail. Before joining the County in 2017, he served as the chief architect of Granite Construction, a $2.4 billion heavy construction company in the Bay Area.
Prior to that, he led the technology design for the new state-of-the-art, $1.8 billion Stanford University Hospital and was the chief architect for the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), the national accelerator laboratory run by the U.S. Department of Energy.
A published author of many IT-related articles, Imre holds degrees from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary, graduating cum laude with a master’s degree in geophysics. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in computational mathematics.
