Makiko loves developing web map applications using various platforms like Leaflet, Mapbox, and Google Maps. She is also learning the game engine, unity, to explore and expand current map capabilities. Makiko has worked for Cupertino as a GIS technician and Web developer for the past 8 years. Previously she worked on a project at Stanford University Business to track the vaccine delivery in Africa and also spent time as a contractor for USGS. She embraces that GIS is a good tool for making good decisions for a better society and is willing to continue learning new things toward that goal.

Makiko has a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Geography from San Jose State University.

GIS DAY 2024 - Adam Araza

Adam Araza

Business Systems Analyst

City of Cupertino

Adam Araza is currently a Business Systems Analyst with the City of Cupertino and has worked in the City's GIS Division for over ten years, starting as an intern. He has worked on various GIS projects, including data manipulation and visualizations, web app development, 3D, augmented reality, and analyzing and capturing images using drones. He believes a solid understanding of GIS is a strong foundation for understanding current and emerging technologies. Before working for the City, Adam worked for Our City Forest, a non-profit providing urban forestry services in San Jose. Adam received a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from UC Santa Barbara and a Master of Science in Geographic Information Science and Technology from the University of Southern California.
